Quilting aside . . .

I broke from daily tradition and didn't quilt all week! Yes, there is a touch of withdrawal symptoms. However, sewing didn't stop even if it didn't result in a quilt. I made a jumper for one of my college daughters. In order to keep it modest, I delved into my vast collection of ancient patterns, back when there was some modesty. The pattern we decided on was a bit narrow in the skirt and threw me into a contemplative mood for two days until I figured out how to work around it! The solution came to me at Mass! I measured, cut, measured, thought, measured, and cut some more but finally put in two side panels with tiny gathers at the waist. Happily, it looked like a 'planned' pattern, my daughter was pleased, and it was done.

Next project is All Saints' Day costumes. I sold a few on-line last year and they were gone almost before I finished the posting. I'm going to try it this year to see if I can make some spending money. Oh, yeah, and I suppose I'll have some fun designing and sewing them, too!

It's getting beyond the element of surprise . . .

The president recently awarded 16 citizens with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Among the criteria for their selection of this award was 'promoting world peace'. Some of these recepients are anti-life promoters. I found this yet another sad statement on the well being of our country that people would be valued for their work in seeing to the murder of the innocent. Anyone who voted for this president, take heed because you are actively sharing in any abortion committed on an unborn baby since your vote made it possible.

The national health care proposal not only targets the unborn but the elderly. Many of the people who have chastised me for not supporting the president's policies are elderly. If the national health care fiasco goes through, I wonder if they realize they may have cast a vote for a very early retirement from this world?

Naturally, you can't constantly dwell on all the evil being put forth into our nation by elected officials and the president. We have to continue to live our own lives to the fullest, pray harder. There is, however, that few minutes upon waking when you have that pit in your stomach like everything isn't quite right with the world. And it isn't . . .

Fun thoughts for the day . . .

"Man is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness from which he emerges and the infinity in which he is engulfed."
-- Blaise Pascal

"First there is a time when we believe everything, then for a little while we believe with discrimination, then we believe nothing whatever, and then we believe everything again - and, moreover, give reasons why we believe."
-- Georg Christoph Lichtenberg

"Speak when you are angry--and you will make the best speech you'll ever regret."

Sad . . .

Someone told me that at last count, it seems that around 60% of the Catholic vote went for the election of our current president. That really saddens me because it was pretty much out there, in plain language, that he was very much in favor of abortion, no parental notification, partial birth abortion, and embryonic stem cell research. Within days of his swearing into office, he made 'good' on his promises and the abortion industry gives him a big thumbs up.

When I heard the high number of Catholic votes going to the election of this president, it seemed like a number far removed from my day to day life. Imagine my surprise when it seems that just about everyone that attends daily Mass, has nothing but good to say of the president and voted for him because of his empty promise of change. When I ask them about his abortion stance, they either change the subject, say it is overstated, or say we have to look at the big picture. Looking at this 'big picture' means babies will die for the sake of the economy or whatever agenda they favor over a developed conscience.

It is getting hard to watch these people share the Mass with me when they have all harped at me for my narrow-minded viewpoint in regards to politics and politicians. I don't think God thinks it is narrow-minded to defend life first and let the economy take care of itself.

If obama's national health system goes into effect, more lives will be lost. Besides the unborn, the elderly will find themselves on rationed care because why waste resources on someone who is going to die anyway? Uh, you could be twenty years old, be eligible for major surgery, and get run over by a bus two weeks after recovery. If we knew about the bus accident, the surgery should have been refused 'because the person was going to die anyway'?

It is kind of ironic that the people who are praising the president at morning Mass are all elderly! They voted in an advocate of killing the unborn. Wonder if they realized they were possibly voting in their own demise?

I don't think people today can claim invincible ignorance when it comes to what is going on in the world. I think many people, however, twist the truth in their minds to rest easy in this life time. Although I know I probably face Purgatory time for my own shortcomings, I sure don't want to be one of the crowd who has to face the preborn babies they sentenced to death by their vote. Didn't Christ say something to the effect, 'what you do to the least of my people, you do to Me?'

Speaking of bananas . . .

While on the subject of bananas, we have been edging slightly off our usual healthy diet with banana pudding! Although you can make vanilla pudding from scratch, a boxed mix would work as well. It is a soothing, cool ending to a hot and miserably humid summer day!

Before you start the pudding, you slice up two or three bananas into slices and toss with the juice of one lemon and a quarter cup of granulated sugar. Set aside while you prepare the pudding of your choice. Once the pudding is cooked, let it sit for 15minutes and then layer it in a nice bowl, alternating with the banana slices. The best way to top it, to my mind, is with whipped cream. To prevent your homemade whipped cream from 'fading' away, whip it with a couple tablespoons of sour cream along with the sugar and vanilla extract. Made this way, the whipped cream lasts several edible days in the refrigerator.

The Computer ate my homework . . .

Two of my children (age 15 and 21) are doing a summer project and making a totally obscure, weird, silly, nonsense movie together. My son is starring in all the roles which has my daughter running from side to side to make it look like he is actually talking to his 'other persona'. With a few pointers from my media major daughter, who is away at college, I'm in charge of putting the film together and editing. I'm learning as I go along so there have been some interesting interludes!

About 30 minutes of work gave us eight minutes of film yesterday. Actually, that is quite a bit for one session. My husband kindly got it uploaded into the movie maker prgram, I viewed the clips this morning, and when I was ready to work with them, they had disappeared. Yeah, we still have them on a disc but WHERE did the uploaded ones go? I just know they are lurking behind something else. I found a few audio clips in places they shouldn't be today so have hopes the video ones will give themselves away next time I enter the program.

We didn't have time to take video footage of our nearest and dearest friends but did have lots of photos taken after Mass the last few Sundays. I managed to work with that and they are also starring in a film they don't know is going down. If I provide snacks for the viewing, they might not hate us TOO much!

Uninformed . . .?

I had an odd experience this morning. I had just exited morning Mass and Adoration when another attendee approached me. She said she was trying to get people to come say the Rosary one day a week at the local abortion clinic. I said that we did pray for an end to abortion especially with the president we currently have in the White House. The woman immediately reared up and said, "We won't go into THAT now, but I respect and admire the present we now have in the White House." I said that since obama had taken office, he had lifted all the bans on abortion that President Bush had set in place so MORE babies are being killed than when President Bush was in the White House.

The woman said that she didn't believe that was all true about obama and abortion. She also said that some number or the other of babies were aborted last year and THEY weren't obama's fault. I said a president can't overturn Roe v. Wade so they weren't President Bush's fault, either. She dismissed that statement as it didn't fit into her brain washed mind set.

The whole interlude left me shaking in disbelief. Now, I know there are liberal 'catholics' like that but it was my first, face-to-face encounter. I just couldn't figure out how she could be aware of the abortion issue and not have the intelligence to check out the facts regarding obama's take on the matter. I guess I'm finally getting a glimpse into how the Catholic vote pushed the current administration into place for our country.

Guess I will have to avoid this woman in the future because I'm pretty sure that slapping sense into people is probably against the law! : - ) How anyone can be against abortion but support the current source of advancing abortion policy is beyond me. The woman should be ashamed of herself but, instead, she is a smug patriot . . . while babies continue to die on HER watch.
