Computer literate cat?

I thought it was bad enough trying to work around a kitten looking for a comfortable place to be but this evening, she discovered the cursor on the screen. It was impossible to work as every time that little arrow moved, Marcela jumped at it. She has now been placed in protective custody of my daughter.

Mission Accomplished!

As usual, when you finally get to working on a project, you find out that it was only about five minutes work left on it. Two quilting seams and my wolf quilt was completed. I discovered the fabric a few weeks ago and had a great time trying to keep the wolves masculine yet use great colors. It is a little wild but, then, so are wolves.

Pad see ew . . . Huh?

Okay, so what is pad see ew? Just a nifty stir-fry meal often ordered from street vendors in Bangkok . . . not that I have ever had that opportunity but when I found a recipe for it in my latest issue of Cook's Illustrated, I just had to take up the challenge and try it. As always, the recipe was straightforward and easy to follow as long as I didn't try and get ahead of myself. My only worry was the rice noodles as previous attempts with them in other recipes were never perfect. Turns out that like all products, you have to make sure you get a reliable brand. I finished off the meal with more Asian flair and had Lychee fruit. Fortunately for me, I'm the only one who likes this funny little fruit.

Happy Feast of the Transfiguration!

Happy Feast of the Transfiguration!

Funny quotes with some reality . . .

"Drive-in banks were established so most of the cars today could see their real owners."
-- E. Joseph Cossman
"An incompetent attorney can delay a trial for months or years. A competent attorney can delay one even longer."
-- Evelle J. Younger

Back to the sewing machine . . .

With my son on vacation from college, I have an extra hour or so a day to work on some quilting projects. This is my latest creation in progress. I liked the chocolate-themed fabric and had been looking for a contrasting fabric to bring it out yet sort of go with it. The black and white prints seemed to do just that. The blue papers on each square are numbers so I know where to place them when it is time to finish sewing them together. I used to just match them up from memory but discovered I didn't like 'puzzles' so do this in the beginning and just work around the bothersome bits of paper notes. It saves me time in the long run and I don't pull out quite so much of my hair or develop excess worry lines! :-)

The literary kitten . . .

Posted by PicasaI've figured out how cats end up having the run of a home . . . they annoy you until you let them sit wherever they want just so they stop bothering you. This particular morning, our resident kitten was very active so when she finally settled down on my paperwork, I was ready to take advantage of the peace and quiet.

Perfect Explanation . . .

Linda Devore, writing in an op-ed in the Fayetteville Observer of North Carolina, said disagreeing with gay marriage doesn’t equate to hate speech.

“We all prefer to live in a world where offensive words and conduct are discouraged, but increasingly it seems that merely speaking the truth of one's beliefs is being labeled ‘hate speech’ by those looking for an offense,” Devore wrote. “Cathy's words and support of organizations promoting traditional family values don't even come close. He is a soft-spoken man who knows what he believes, and understands that others may disagree and live their lives otherwise,” she wrote, referring to Cathy.

“As Americans,” wrote Devore, “we would all do better to learn how to disagree without being disagreeable, and respect differences of opinion without demonizing. Disagreeing does not equal ‘hate speech,’ as it is too often characterized these days. Do we really want to become the United States of Offense Taken?”
