Fortnight for Freedom Takes on Obama's Pro-Abortion Mandate

Obama not only drew a line in the sand re. our rights as citizens, he threw sand in the faces of all people who want to save the lives of the unborn. This just came through on LifeSite News. I've included their link so you can read the list of dioceses who are going to be active in this Fortnight for Freedom. Unfortunately, at this this point in time, our diocese, The Diocese of San Bernardino, hasn't weighed in yet. It would be nice if we could proudly say our diocese was at the forefront of this but, sadly, I haven't heard anything yet.

Fortnight for Freedom Takes on Obama’s Pro-Abortion Mandate

The Obama Administration and its pro-abortion allies hoped public outcry over their healthcare mandate which forces religious institutions to violate their moral convictions, would die down in time. They went as far as to mount a public relations assault against opponents, accusing them of waging "war on women.

But the public outcry against the unpopular Obama healthcare law and the HHS mandate has not dissipated. Pro-life advocates will stand together from June 21st through July 4th for a two-week prayer and action campaign called the "Fortnight for Freedom."

The "Fortnight for Freedom" is being sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and backed by prominent right-to-life organizations. According to the USCCB, "Bishops in their own dioceses are encouraged to arrange special events to highlight the importance of defending religious freedom. Catholic institutions are encouraged to do the same, especially in cooperation with other Christians, Jews, people of other faiths and all who wish to defend our most cherished freedom."

In total, 43 Catholic dioceses, universities, hospitals and other religious organizations sued the Obama Administration to protect their religious freedom.

The National Right to Life Committee has warned the HHS mandate also paves the way for the forced coverage of surgical abortions. The organization said, "The Obama Administration has issued a requirement that religious institutions, such as religious schools and hospitals, pay for health insurance plans that provide drugs and procedures that violate the groups’ religious and moral convictions. The same rationale used for this could later be used to require coverage for surgical abortions also."

The group also notes, "The Obama Administration killed a conscience regulation that would have protected health care workers from being punished for refusing to participate in abortions."

President Obama’s unwavering pro-abortion advocacy has earned him the endorsement of the nation’s top pro-abortion groups including Planned Parenthood and NARAL. In contrast, Republican nominee Mitt Romney, who is endorsed by National Right to Life PAC, has pledged to do away with the Obama HHS mandate and says he believes Obamacare must be repealed.

In a Washington Examiner opinion piece, Romney wrote, "…on day one I will eliminate the Obama Administration rule that compels religious institutions to violate the tenets of their own faith. Such rules don’t belong in the America that I believe in."

As Romney addressed graduates of Liberty University in May, he remarked, "Religious liberty is the first freedom in our Constitution. And whether the cause is justice for the persecuted, compassion for the needy and the sick, or mercy for the child waiting to be born, there is no greater force for good in the nation than Christian conscience in action."

Cheese Bread!

When the budget is tight, we tend to have pasta dishes more often. Fortunately, I have children who enjoy a plate of spaghetti. In order to bring some variety to the table during those times, Cheese Bread is a welcome treat and upgrades a simple pasta dinner.

Cheese Bread
3/4 cup butter
5 cloves peeled and chopped garlic
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Pinch chili flakes
1/2 cup grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
Your choice of bread - slices of sourdough, hamburger buns, long French Bread loaves, etc.

Saute the garlic cloves in a teaspoon of oil until softened but not browned. Soften the butter in a large bowl and add all the ingredient except for the bread. Mix together well.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange your bread, cut side up. Spread generously with your cheese mixture. Bake in a 375 degree oven until the cheese topping is brown and the cheese is bubbling a bit. Serve!

You will be glad you used the parchment paper if the cheese melts down the sides of the bread because you get some nice, crispy pieces to keep you going while you put dinner on the table!

Life vs. Politics . . .

According to the Democrats, the Republicans have declared a 'war on women'. I find that an interesting perspective with little foundation other than it has been spouted by the liberals and if you disagree with a liberal, they just shout their stuff louder. No basis proved, just that they can out shout you.

It is also interesting that factions that have joined this round of revelations. Planned Parenthood is here for the health of women which, according to them, the conservatives want to stop. A well-known 'fact' given out by Planned Parenthood over the years is that they provide mammograms. Turns out that upon some research, their sites do not even have mammograms facilities on premises.

Planned Parenthood wants to preserve a woman's right to health services. Their main goal (and source of income) is abortion. With abortion, there is always one wounded and one dead. They want to keep abortion legal to prevent all those deaths from backstreet abortions pre. Roe vs. Wade. Statistics show more women have died at the hand of the 'legal' abortionists.

In keeping with Planned Parenthood's goal of keeping women healthy, they conveniently neglect to aknowledge that abortion raises a woman's chance of developing breast cancer. Or, that the birth control pill has many side effects and probably a lot more that just haven't surfaced yet.

It is hard to take the anti-life community seriously on their stand of preserving women's rights and respect when abortion also takes the lives of many female babies. In many cases, couples who are hoping for that son and heir may sacrifice a viable pregnancy with a female in order to try for the selected and wanted gender child. You can't be said to defend women's rights if you don't defend them from conception.

Planned Parenthood also provides obscene sexual information to make young children and teens comfortable with their sexuality. Seems that if you make the act of procreation a matter of casual recreation, you take away the respect of the people involved.

Republicans are also said to deprive women of their proper place in the work force. Interesting how the staff in the Democratic Senate pay their women employees less than the male counterparts. According to Pelosi, the Senate is a 'different world'. I have to agree that the Democratic Senate is other worldly in their view of reality. They see what they think needs fixing for everyone else but themselves.

Working women are exalted and congratulated by the liberals. Working women at home are dismissed as being lazy and unproductive. So much for defending the rights of all women by the Democrats. I was blessed to be able to stay home and raise and school my children. I was busy from dawn until dusk with a lot of midnight emergencies with various childhood illnesses, nightmares, and baby needs. I didn't have any paid leave of absence and lived and breathed my job. When someone tells me they are a full-time mother and a full-time career woman, it is hard to understand their math.

If anyone is waging war on women, born and unborn, it is not the conservatives. If anyone wonders where our current president stands on this issue, he recently got monetary support from Planned Parenthood and is now known as the abortion president.

November 2012 will be a battleground as the election will probably be tampered with, again, as re-election is sought to provide us with four more years of dead babies and economic hardships. Sad to say, many of the Catholics I know who voted for the current president, intend to do so a second time. It is hard for me to understand how people blessed with the Faith built on the blood of martyrs would put politics before their professed religion.

Putting our time on earth into perspective . . .

“Oh how precious time is! Blessed are those who know how to make good use of it. Who can assure us that we will be alive tomorrow? Let us listen to the voice of our conscience, to the voice of the royal prophet: ‘Today if you hear God's voice, harden not your heart.’ Let us not put off for one moment to another what we ‘should’ do, because the next moment is not yet ours!” ~St. Padre Pio
