The Mass and the Saints - respect in the Church!

“For a church is not a barber's shop or a chemist's or a market stall: it is the dwelling of angels and of archangels; it is the kingdom of God; it is heaven itself. If someone gave you entrance into heaven, you would not dare to speak a word, not even if you should see your own brother or father. Likewise in the church, only spiritual things may be spoken, for this is heaven.”

—St. John Chrysostom
Quoted in “The Mass and the Saints”

Some good chuckles to start the day . . .

"Don't ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up."
-- G. K. Chesterton

"I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet."
-- Rodney Dangerfield

"It is even harder for the average ape to believe that he has descended from man."
-- H. L. Mencken

"The future, according to some scientists, will be exactly like the past, only far more expensive."
-- John Sladek

Friendship . . .

Lots of trust involved in the development of a friendship so when such a relationship is not taken seriously, it depletes each person involved.

To have a good friend is one of the highest delights in life; to be a good friend is one of the noblest and most difficult undertakings.

How Does Our Garden Grow . . .

So far, the annual summer garden is progressing pretty well. My husband puts a lot of work into it but also enjoys the process. We've already been deluged with cucumbers and green beans which saves us a few pennies off the shopping list. They taste better than the store produce, too. The tomatoes are making themselves known and I foresee a lot of chopping, slicing, freezing and drying with them before the summer is over. I still have a bag in the freezer from last year which is going to be turned into pasta sauce to make room in the freezer for the next harvest. We are growing eggplant this year for the first time and look forward to seeing how much difference there is between homegrown and store-bought types.

Hidden Depths . . .

Yes, this kitten seems to be the height of sweetness and light but she is really plotting her next move . . . once she escapes. My husband thought it would be okay to let her run around the kitchen floor, one morning, while he had breakfast. Should never eat breakfast in your barefeet when this kitten is on the prowl.

Cat/Kitten Motherhood . . .

Although the mother cat, Miss Stubby, thought that having to nurse her babies was a bother, she soon discovered that having them share her special canned food was even more disconcerting. You can tell from her face that she is wondering about the whole situation.
