A place to share ideas on making a comfortable home. I do it through quilting, being faithful to my Faith, and caring for my family. Being a Catholic, sewing, and baking cookies are a few of my favorite things. I'm open to discussion!

Nearing completion . . . I hope!
I completed the quilt top for my latest project. I have to put it aside until I can find a suitable fabric for the backing. I wish the camera would reflect the color better. The burnt orange has beautiful streaks of old gold in the pattern. The blue is deeper than shown and a perfect compliment to the orange fabric. My daughter wanted a quilt with visual movement and, in person, this one does make your eyes go wandering. Once it is actually quilted and sewn together, it will be more evident.
The First Day of School . . . I mean, college!
So ends my baby's childhood . . . he has his first college class today. He is a laid-back sort of kid so doesn't show much reaction but I think he is excited to begin his college career. I'm still kind of peeved that the ratio of prospective students is unbalanced and he was only able to get this one class. I said that at this rate, it will take him twenty years to get his AA degree. My husband chastised me and said, "I'm sure it won't be more than fifteen years!" Anyway, we have a beginning and ask God's blessing on this new adventure.
Gosh, the cost of books, however, was a bit shocking. We purchased a used book for his class so it was only $60! Sixty dollars for a well-used, battered book. Sigh . . . Perhaps, it is a good thing he only had the one class, ya think?
Finished the quilt top for my current project. Sigh . . . don't have enough fabric for the backing so I started working on some Our Lady of Guadeloupe aprons to sell for spare cash to feed my hobby. I discovered some pretty, pastel rose floral fabric in my cupboard and it goes well with the Our Lady of Guadeloupe print fabric I'm using to applique on the bodice.
Have to round up a crocheting project to take with me this morning. My son's ride to college didn't work out this morning so I get to take him in . . . which I don't mind! It gives me a reason to just sit and crochet while I wait for him. The first day of class shouldn't go the whole time so it isn't worth the gas and time to drive home and then almost immediately back, again.
Watched some of excerpts from the debates last night. Not one of them is all that great but I hope and pray one of them ends up being sent to the White House in 2012.

Looking back over the years, I find this all too true!

true friend is the greatest of all blessings, and that which we take the least
care of all to acquire.

What's with the Girl Scouts? Agendas, Agendas, everywhere!
When I was of an age to long to become a Girl Scout, my mother refused saying that she didn't appreciate little girls almost being forced to sell cookies every year to meet quotas. She didn't think that a group for young girls should be used that way. This was back in the 'dark ages' and I grew up sort of wistful that I couldn't sport the nifty outfit and have a sash of earned badges. I guess my mother sensed what could become of an organization like that. This was heartbreaking and very sad. I had heard rumors of such things, over the years, but to have it outlined so clearly makes me realize how the state of the world has made a huge U-turn for the worse.
