Dealing With Politics in the Family . . .

The liberal mind set is an interesting thing to behold. They claim to view ALL sides of an issue but just present an argument and this claimed gift of fairness clanks shut with a vengence. I know, my husband and I are lone conservatives midst liberal factions on both side of the family.

What is interesting is that liberals aren't able to deal with arguments that go against their state-controlled media mentality. We have one relative who has tried, over the years, to help us see the 'light' and has finally given up. His idea of giving up is not to just be family but to close us off from the family.

Another aspect of a liberal dealing with our 'closed-minded conservative nature' is to respond to any logical argument with, "That makes me feel very uncomfortable and I don't want to discuss it." Openminded, liberals ain't.

Someone told me they voted for the current administration because they wanted 'change' even thouogh they knew he was anti-life. I said that if we vote for someone who will make abortion MORE available, as has happened, THEY share in any abortion that transpires because they gave the capability to the elected official. Rather than consider this, the person stopped talking to me.

My favorite response was when I pointed out to a long-time friend that his political party had a firm political plank in favor of abortion. His response was, "You KNOW I abhor abortion!" Uh, and . . .?

God has certainly placed us in an interesting phase of history. It has made me more politically informed and turned my heart to prayer more often.

Ninety-eight percent of Catholic women do NOT use birth control!

During the ongoing obama mandate battle, it is constantly cited that Catholic women do use birth control so the Church should just face this fact and stop arguing over the mandate. First of all, birth control still goes against preborn life so if we are truly in line with the fact that life begins at conception, it doesn't matter what other women are doing. Just because everyone is supposedly doing it, still doesn't make it the right thing to do. Second, the poll coming up with the 98% of Catholic women use birth control isn't true . . . as you can check the link on this yourself.

The revised obama mandate doesn't change a thing . . .

The latest from the obama anti-faith/religion mandate is below. I fail to see how the revision makes things any better. The insurance companies still have to provide for the birth control and related items. The insurance companies are not a charity so they will get back their money some way . . . like raising insurance premiums. Catholics and other religions that object to being a part of this immorality will still be paying one way or the other. The 'chess pieces' have been moved around the board but the obama administration still wins.

Yes, women have a right to live the way they want but pro-life people should not be paying out of pocket for something they adamantly disagree with on good principle. We should not be forced to pay for what we consider the ultimate murder of preborn life. When he issued this mandate, obama stepped over the line and narrowed down freedom to a select group.

It is very sad to note that Catholic Charities and the Catholic Health Association stand by the revision. What Catholic Church are they following? Do they suspercede Rome and 2,000 years of faith when it suits them? I wish our own bishop had come out with strong outrage over this and had, like many dioceses, provided a firmly worded letter stating his outrage over even the revised edition of the obama mandate. Not everyone pays as much attention to the news as they do in the pews . . . and the people in the pews are not being properly informed by the clergy.

Too many clergy and Catholics put their political feelings ahead of their religion. The Cathollic vote in 2008 that made this all possible resulted in the turmoil in our church and state today.

The revised Obama mandate will make religious groups contract with insurers to offer birth control and the potentially abortion-causing drugs to women at no cost. It will have religious employers refer women to their insurance company for coverage that still violates their moral and religious beliefs. Under this plan, every insurance company will be obligated to provide coverage at no cost.

Despite strong objections from the Cathodic bishops and pro-life groups, Jacob Lew told “Fox News Sunday” that the Obama administration believes the revised mandate addresses objections from pro-life and Catholic groups and is consistent with the president’s “very deep belief that a woman has a right to all forms of preventive health care, including contraception.”

“We have set out our policy,” Lew said. “We are going to finalize it in the final rules, but I think what the president announced on Friday is a balanced approach that meets the concerns raised both in terms of access to health care and in terms of protecting religious liberties, and we think that’s the right approach.”

“We didn’t expect to get the support of the bishops or all Catholics,” Lew continued. “We think it is a very good resolution of the problem. It’s gotten the support of a wide range of organizations from Catholic charities and the Catholic Health Association to Planned Parenthood.”

Butter-Apple Tart

In case you want to have a splurge before Ash Wednesday and celebrate Fat Tuesday in style, this is an easy but elegant way to finish off a meal.

Butter-Apple Tart
Peel, core and thinly slice six apples, toss with zest and juice of one lemon
Two tablespoons all-purpose flour
One teaspoon cinnamon
Dash ground cloves
½ cup granulated sugar

Mix together and set aside while you prepare the crust.

Butter Rich Crust
Two sticks of butter (best!) or margarine
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
Zest of one lemon
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Ice water as needed to form dough

Combine two sticks of butter or margarine (butter is best but not necessary), and one and one half cups all-purpose flour with zest of one lemon, one cup granulated sugar and two teaspoons vanilla extract. The food processor really facilitates the matter. When you have a dough, press onto a greased baking sheet. Spread it out as far as possible, making it about one-fourth inch thick. We are going for a rustic look here, not symmetrical. Arrange the apple slices on the crust, overlapping them slightly. Be creative here and think about how it will look when it comes to the table. It will taste good no matter what, but eye appeal certainly helps that homey atmosphere. Leave about a two-inch space of dough around the edges. Once you have finished placing the apple slices, lap the dough over all around. It won't be even, so don't even try. Brush the edges with water, sprinkle with sugar. If you have some sugared juice left from the apples, dribble it over the sliced apples.

Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 30 minutes or until edges are very golden brown. You want to make sure the bottom of the crust is baked through. You can lift up a corner and peek if you are in doubt. Turn down to 375 degrees if it seems to be browning too quickly. Best served warm or cold.

Where have all the morals gone . . .?

Wasn't sure about posting this as the material is very graphic. The horror of the graphic content is that this is what Planned Parenthood is promoting among our school children. The video is produced by American Life League and they kept it as low-key as possible but it is near-impossible to explain the garbage that is going on without seeing excerpts of it. Parents should be very shocked and immediately check into what might be going on in their own children's 'health' classes at school. I am so glad we were blessed with the opportunity to homeschool our children. Yes, we did miss out on a lot of extracurricular activities but we aren't sorry for having missed this trash. Where have all the morals gone?
