The holiday season approaches in a rather rapid pace and our thoughts turn towards the kitchen and how to plan for parties and special meals. One easy treat that is often forgotten are the rice cereal treats which I know most all of us grew up. I won't bother with the recipe (unless someone can't find it!) as it appears on most every rice cereal box. My thought is to give hints on how to dress this simple treat up for fun treats in line with the joy of the season!
*Melt some chocolate chips carefully to avoid burning and then drizzle it over prepared and cut rice cereal bars. Before the chocolate can set, sprinkle with colorful decorations which can be found in the baking section at most grocery stores.
*If you can find peanut butter chips, melt them and spread over the tops of cut treats and quickly press into some finely chopped peanuts.
*When you prepare the treats, add 1/2 cup finely chopped dried fruit to the mixture before you press it into the pan to cool.
*Try drizzling with melted white chocolate chips and scattering toffee bits over them before they set.
*For some extra crunch, give some dried banana chips a whirl in the blender to break up a bit and add to the rice cereal mixture before pressing into the pan to cool. Go for a banana split taste and drizzle with melted chocolate.
*Add a tablespoon or two of freshly grated orange zest to the mixture before pressing into the pan to cool.
*Add 1/2 cup chopped pecans to the mixture before pressing into the pan to cool and then drizzle with melted butterscotch chip.
