Homemade Cheese Spread

Whenever we had a large crowd over for dinner, I try to have both a relish tray of fresh vegetables and something savory on the dinner table. It helps soothe anxious appetites while the food is being passed if they have something to munch on. It also makes a good buffet or potluck item. I like the slightly smokey taste from the liquid smoke. I found the liquid smoke in the sauce aisle of our store along with the hot pepper sauces and such.

Homemade Cheese Spread
1 cup butter
2 cups  sharp cheddar cheese, finely shredded
1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated black pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke

Combine all the ingredients and thoroughly mix. If you have a food processor, it would make it even smoother. Serve with hearty crackers, toasted bread . . .
