Crazy Quilts!
Finally, I have two quilt tops in the final stages and am heading towards completing them, possibly, this coming week. One is my usual, scrap quilt. I love being able to turn bits and pieces of leftover fabric into a full-sized quilt! The other quilt is a play on autumn fabrics with leaves, etc. with several squares of definitely winter motiffs. I'm calling it 'Falling into Winter'. It is not one of my usual, random quilts! Now, I just need to work harder at finding a market for my favorite pasttime as I counted 30 quilts in my storage area. That is after having gifted several of them out at Christmas and birthdays!
I no sooner get into the ending stages of a quilt project and I start thinking about the next one. Yes, I'm already eager to start cutting out the pieces for my next 'inspiration'!

Yet another Season of Lent . . .
The season of the Church Year seem to crowd in on each other the older I get. I feel like I've just put away the Christmas decorations and it is coming on Ash Wednesday. This year, I hope to enter into the season with more thought starting with giving friends and family round cut out cookies decorated with lavender and white icing for a sort of Mardi Gras gift. Round for the full circle of the Church Year and Christ's Eternity and lavender for the upcoming Lenten Season. I have the ingredients, got the food color, and just have to find the time and energy. Why aren't time and energy ever in the same place, anyway?
We abstain from meat Wednesdays and Fridays in Lent which doesn't sound all that hard until you have to think of nurishing yet meatless recipes TWICE a week. I guess that is part of my penance. It sure brings out my creativity.
I think too many people view Lent as a 'give up' season where you can't do this and you can't do that. A more positive approach might provide a more productive six weeks. AND, with Lent coming on, why does the altar boy cassock company run out of black cassocks?! They say it will take six to eight weeks to get my order. Great, just in time for Easter when we go back to red cassocks! My first 'sacrifice' of the season? : - )

Who is required to be civil . . .
The president touts civility, civility, civility these days which basically translates to not talking back to him or his proposed changes to our lives. Someone is always on the carpet for 'hate speech' even if it only to defend a position on some situation. Today, the breaking news headline was:
"Supreme Court upholds Westboro Baptist Church's right to stage anti-gay protests at funerals of U.S. troops."
Okay, they have been granted the right to 'hate speech'? If they are staging anti-gay protests, aren't they demeaning gays? If they are coming out with signs and slogans against gays, isn't THAT 'hate speech'?
Besides the stupidity of the Supreme Court in making this legal, did they even consider the feelings of the families and the burial of their loved ones? Here are people burying sons, husbands, brothers, sisters, wives, etc., and the sorrow is tainted with strangers bringing their agendas into a private situation. These deceased died for their country and the Supreme Court doesn't protest their families' right to dignity?

2. "Relax, the handcuffs are tight because they're new. They'll stretch after you wear them a while."

A fruitful day in the making . . .
Nothing makes me happier than getting an order for my handiwork and this past week has been busy with just that! I will sew and quilt regardless of whether the project at hand has a 'home' but there is a joy in knowing that someone cared enough for tiny stitches and an original quilt or bag to order one specifically. My project request today is a Guardian Angel tote bag with general instructions to put lots of angels on it. That is definitely a can-do order! I also have two quilts approaching their completion and look forward to taking the last stitch on each.
I had one person state, thinking I was out of hearing, that they wouldn't pay $20 for one of my quilts. She initially ordered one and was shocked that just the fabric, batting, etc. would cost around $40. She was floored that on top of that, I would charge for labor, too. Imagine! I like my quilts, whether sold or gifted, to go to good homes. An attitude like that didn't bode well for the safety of one of my quilts in a home like that. Kind of ironic as I was feeling sorry for the one inquiring and was thinking about giving her a quilt for a gift. After that remark, I figured she wouldn't even want a $20 quilt for free!
